The Totem pendant is made with Sterling Silver and natural abalone shell, woven together with nylon cord. The silver piece used in this necklace was carved in wax, cast in Sterling Silver, and polished to have the perfect amount of shine. The abalone shell is vintage and untreated, allowing for slight variations in pattern, shape, and color - making each piece one of a kind. Despite being untreated, the shell has a beautiful natural shine and luster. The pendant measures about 1.5 inches long, and the silver piece is about 1.25 inches wide. It is woven onto a leather cord 28 inches long with handmade cream colored tassels at the back. The length can be adjusted with a small silver bead.
See Real Flowers is designed and made in Los Angeles by Elena Chien. The collection draws on traditions of handmade jewelry in both the design, and the use of simple natural materials like leather, shell, stone, and wood. Many of the pieces are talismanic - filled wild California sage, Tulsi wood, or small ocean pebbles collected by Elena from the Pacific Ocean. They are meant to bring calm, clarity, or protection to the wearer. See Real Flowers is a balance of simplicity, beauty, and playfulness.
