20th century Samoan wooden kava bowl, carved from a single piece of wood and supported by 14 (medium) or 16 (large) round legs. Kava bowls are traditionally used for mixing a sedative drink made from the roots of the kava plant, which are crushed into a powder and mixed with water. Bowls like this one have become important symbols of Samoan hospitality. This piece is in excellent vintage condition.
