Two vintage abalone pieces are woven together with nylon cord to make this pendant. The abalone used for these necklaces are vintage and untreated, allowing for slight variations in pattern, shape, and color - making each piece one of a kind. Despite being untreated, the shell has a beautiful natural shine and luster. The pendant measures about 2 inches long. The cord is knotted with tiny sterling silver beads and measures 28 inches long. It is adjustable in length, with a small bead at the back.
See Real Flowers is designed and made in Los Angeles by Elena Chien. The collection draws on traditions of handmade jewelry in both the design, and the use of simple natural materials like leather, shell, stone, and wood. Many of the pieces are talismanic - filled wild California sage, Tulsi wood, or small ocean pebbles collected by Elena from the Pacific Ocean. They are meant to bring calm, clarity, or protection to the wearer. See Real Flowers is a balance of simplicity, beauty, and playfulness.
